Hello I am Nathan.
I work as a mental health practitioner in the National Health Service, I have been doing so for over 20 years, and I hold a Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I also practice as a counsellor in Transactional analysis.
As such, together we explore your own unique transactions with me, with you, with other people and with the world.
Counselling involves a series of formal sessions where the therapist and the client talk about the client’s issues and feelings. Short-term talking therapy typically involves six to 12 sessions. Therapy may involve you and the counsellor talking about life events, feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. Longer term counselling may and can exceed 12 weeks and beyond.
As your counsellor I will listen, encourage and empathise, but will also challenge to help you see your issues more clearly or in a different way. Therefore, counselling can be about helping you to understand yourself better and find your own solutions so that you can resolve or cope with your situation. Counselling is not about giving opinions or advice and it is not a chat with a friend.
Our therapeutic relationship is based on trust and mutual respect, guided by your developmental process. The main purpose of therapeutic conditions is to create and maintain a safe space in which to facilitate this development. These conditions help to create a professional working alliance.
