What is Tui Na?
Tui Na is a simple, yet highly effective form of deep tissue massage and joint manipulation therapy based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has been used in China for thousands of years.
The name Tui Na is derived from two of the techniques used, “Tui” – to push and “Na” – to grasp.
Its benefits are wide-ranging and effective particularly in the treatment of muscular-skeletal problems.
The treatment aims to open up the energy pathways, releasing stagnation and restoring the balance of the body.
Conditions Tui Na Can Help
What happens during treatment?
There is a short initial consultation before treatment.
You are usually treated seated or on a massage couch.
You can generally remain dressed for the majority of techniques.
The treatment may include a range of massage techniques and joint mobilisations.
On occasion, the practitioner may use oils or anti-rheumatic creams, apply Cupping or Moxibustion more directly on to the skin.
You may also be offered advice on exercise and stretching, diet and lifestyle.
A typical Tui Na appointment will take about 45 minutes.
What can it do for me?
Some people have Tui Na for help with a specific symptom or condition. Others choose to have treatment to help maintain good health, as a preventive measure, or simply to improve their general sense of wellbeing.
Many people return to Tui Na again and again because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.
In the long term, if used regularly, Tui Na can play a part in promoting health and wellbeing keeping muscles supple, joints flexible and, by balancing the energies of the body, it also promotes the body’s own healing processes.
